Featured Locale: Port Clinton, Ohio

Searching for a vacation? Find travel inspiration with Featured Locale. Let us introduce you to your new favorite vacation spot below.
About Port Clinton
The “Walleye Capital of the World” is located in northern Ohio very near Lake Erie. It’s known as an excellent fishing destination with Portage River and a number of other nearby lakes flush with different types of fish. There are annual festivals to celebrate the plenty of the fish, boating extravaganzas, and nearby Lake Erie Islands, if you are looking for somewhere quiet to spend the day. Wineries rule here so be sure to try some tastings.
Cedar Point
About a half hour away from Port Clinton is Cedar Point which boasts itself as the “Roller Coaster Capital of the World.” It is certainly one of the premier amusement parks in the Northeast with seventeen thrilling coasters to choose from, a water park, and a kiddy play park for the youngest in your group. Group family passes are the way to go in order to save some money, and there is a range to choose from. Choose your adventure by visiting their website: https://www.cedarpoint.com/.
African Safari
The unique thing about this zoo is that you can actually drive through it. Walking is still an option, sure, and you are certainly free to get out of your vehicle, but the animals are so accustomed to cars and people that they have absolutely no problem in popping their heads through your sunroof to say hello. You’re welcome to feed the animals, pet them, and learn all about their natural environments. They have alpaca, bison, camels, fallow deer, elk, giraffe, llamas, and guanaco, among others. This is a great activity for the whole family. Ticket prices vary according to season. Visit their website for details: www.africansafariwildlifepark.com/.

Here you will find a rich variety of people and things to do representative of the various cultures that thrive in the area. The architecture is something to write home about as the city is dominated by ornate and famous buildings, namely the cathedrals, churches, and government buildings.
Visit Parliament
The structure is Gothic Revival, breathtaking both inside and out. The tour takes guests to see the main staircase (you’ll recognize it from the movies), the coronation jewels, the Dome Hall, the Old Upper House, and the Lounge used by the former monarchy. All together the tour is about an hour not including the security inspection. You’re free to take pictures and ask questions—your guide will be able to answer you in eight languages. Be sure to get your tickets online and early as they tend to sell out quickly.

The market opens in the morning and closes by 5 p.m. so be sure to get an early start.

A Couple’s Favorite
“The Dells” as this resort town is called by natives, is known for its scenery and laid back pace of life, making it perfect for couples or anyone who is looking for peace and quiet. The Wisconsin River runs through the town making it perfect for river tours of the spectacular sandstone formations that line its bank. Couples will enjoy the Sunset Dinner Cruise, featuring live music ranging from Country to Island Reggae, paired with a succulent Surf ‘N Turf entrĂ©e. Wisconsin River Cruise

Family Fun

The area is home to numerous indoor and outdoor water parks, the most notable being Noah’s Ark Water Park. Whether your children are three or thirteen-years-old, they will have a blast at this family-oriented amusement park. Older children and adults will enjoy the mammoth water slides. Be sure to check height requirements to make sure everyone in your party who wants to ride is able. Be warned—these slides are for thrill-seekers. Smaller children and people looking for a calmer experience will enjoy the Endless River, Wave Pool, and arcade. Check their website for seasonal prices at https://www.noahsarkwaterpark.com.

Gamers Welcome

The Dells’ premier form of entertainment is Wizard Quest, a full-scale 13,000 foot Harry Potter-like interactive game. This is a real-life mock-up where gamers will cast-off their controllers and physically find their way through mazes, obstacles, riddles, and hidden clues to unleash the “good wizards” trapped within the game. “Evil wizards” strive to block you at every turn, so watch out, the game is timed. Free all the wizards by the time the clock runs out to win. The game is primarily meant for teens and adults, but there is a kiddy section if you have young adventurers. Tickets are on sale for $15. Check out their website for more details: http://www.wizardquest.com.

Beautiful setting in the Arazona dessert. The two bedroom condo was a bit small but very comfortable for two people for a week. The outdoor pool and poolside bar was a great place timeline time and meet other guests. Easy day trips include Flagstaff, Sedona, the Paintex Deserst and the Petrified Forest (there are several others). Great restaurants, shopping and golf are near by. Overall, a great week.
